Mounties say charges are pending after a man and a five-year-old child were killed and three other people were injured in a crash along a southern Alberta highway.
Two vehicles were travelling westbound on Highway 3 east of Taber Saturday night when a truck appeared to have struck the back of a car that had stopped to turn left, RCMP said.
The male driver of the truck wasn’t hurt, though a female passenger, who had serious leg injuries, was rushed to Taber Hospital.
A 33-year-old man and a five-year-old boy, who were passengers of the car and lived in Coaldale, a community east of Lethbridge, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, a woman in her mid-20s, was transported to hospital in stable condition with soft-tissue injuries. A three-year-old boy, who was in the backseat, was airlifted to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in what was initially believed to be life-threatening condition, but he’s now expected to live.
Road, weather conditions and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash. Mounti9es said Monday they are going to investigate the crash, and that charges are pending.
