Police continue to investigate the events that led to a vehicle plunging into a pond in the northeast Friday night.
Around 10 p.m. a Dodge Caravan was travelling westbound on Saddlehorn Drive N.E. As the vehicle approached Saddleridge Drive instead of turning with the road it continued straight, launching off the road and into a pond.
Police say bystanders entered the water to try and pull the lone occupant, a man in his 20s, from the vehicle, but were unable to do so.
Divers from the Calgary Fire Department were able to recover the man. He was transported to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Speed is considered a factor. Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the incident.
