Four people were injured, including a senior who was airlifted to hospital in serious condition, following two separate highway crashes outside of the city on Friday.
Police and paramedics were called to Highway 567 at Range Road 284 just east of Airdrie around 12:30 p.m. to respond to a collision between two vehicles.
RCMP believe a Chevrolet Avalanche was attempting to turn north on Range Road 284 when it was struck from behind by a Jeep Wrangler.
The 68-year-old male driver of a Jeep was flown by STARS air ambulance to Foothills Hospital in serious, potentially life-threatening condition with possible internal injuries.

The 47-year-old female driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Peter Lougheed Centre by ground ambulance in stable non-life threatening condition with minor injuries.
Highway 567 was closed and traffic was rerouted for about two hours but has since reopened.
Earlier in the day, around 11:10 a.m., emergency workers responded to a crash between a semi and a car at Highway 1A and Range Road 284 just west of Chestermere.
A woman in her 40s had to be extricated from her “significantly damaged vehicle,” and was transported to Foothills Hospital in stable, non-life threatening condition with a serious leg injury, said EMS.
A man in his 30s who was travelling in the semi was also taken to Foothills Hospital in stable, non-life threatening condition.
