More than $20,000 has been raised for a Calgary teenager who may never walk again after he was seriously injured while tobogganing with friends shortly before Christmas.
The funds will go toward modifying the 15-year-old’s home, medical expenses, and the purchase of a wheelchair following the life-altering incident.
The teen, named Alex, was tobogganing with friends on Dec. 21, 2015, when he hit a light post head first, according to a blog documenting his medical journey.
“He was able to tell his friends that he could not feel his legs and they immediately dialed 911 and now Alex’s Journey begins,” states the blog.
A fundraising page set up by family says Alex required back surgery and was admitted to the ICU following the mishap. He remains in hospital nearly a month after the incident.
“He will still be in the hospital for some time yet and he makes efforts every day to do things many of us take for granted. Through all this he does it with a smile and the humour we all know and love,” states the online fundraising page.
