Mounties have laid charges after two windows of the Red Deer RCMP downtown detachment were shot at with a BB pistol Monday afternoon.
RCMP received a report around 3:15 p.m. that a maroon-coloured Ford truck was driving through the Normandeau area and its occupants were shooting at street signs.
About 15 minutes later, police got a call reporting that the truck was passing the downtown RCMP detachment.
At the same time, two windows on the second floor of the building were struck by shots fired from an unknown type of firearm or replica firearm, which resulted in the glass “pebbling but not shattering,” due to its protective covering, said police.
Shortly after, officers located the truck near Boyce Street and Beatty Crescent and conducted a high-risk arrest around 4 p.m.
Police took two men and two women into custody without incident and also seized the weapon, which was determined to be a BB pistol.
Cory Daniel Picard, 21, of Red Deer, was charged with using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief and damage to property over $5,000, and uttering threats.
He was remanded in custody and was expected to make his first court appearance Tuesday.
The driver and the other two occupants of the truck were released without charge.
The RCMP building was evacuated and closed as a precaution after the incident, but has since reopened.
