Mounties are still trying to determine how a man whose lifeless body was found on a Red Deer trail had died.
Police and paramedics were called around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday to the walking trails east of Bower Place Mall and discovered the 34-year-old man dead at the scene.
An autopsy was conducted Thursday at the Calgary medical examiner’s office, but preliminary results have not revealed a cause or manner of death.
His family has been notified but his name is not being released as some out-of-town relatives are still being informed of his death.
The Calgary RCMP major crimes unit is leading the investigation, with help from the RCMP forensic identification unit, the RCMP general investigation section, and the Calgary medical examiner’s office.
The trails were briefly closed for the investigation but were reopened to the public at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Officers have conducted neighbourhood inquiries to see if anyone witnessed unusual activity in the area, and urge anyone with information to contact police.
