One man is dead and another in custody after a collision between a car and motorcycle east of Sundre Friday night.
Mounties suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.
At around 11:40 p.m. emergency crews responded to a call on Highway 27 about 15 kilometres east of Sundre, where preliminary investigation reveals that an eastbound car crossed the centre line, colliding with a westbound motorcyclist.
“Paramedic ground crews initiated aggressive interventions and immediately requested STARS air ambulance to attend the scene,” said EMS spokesman Stuart Brideaux in a release.
The 47-year-old man driving the motorcycle was airlifted to Foothills hospital in critical, life-threatening condition, but later died of his injuries, Brideaux said.
His name has not been released.
The driver of the car, a B.C. man in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and is facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, and having a blood-alcohol concentration over the legal limit of .08.
His name will not be publicly released until charges have been formally laid.
Const. Matthew Floyd with the Sundre RCMP said the crash is still under investigation. But in general, he is reminding drivers not to drink and drive as the results could be deadly.
“It’s really important for impaired driving to really take a back seat because everyone’s safety on the roadway is important,” Floyd said.
Roads were temporarily closed as a collision analyst probed the scene.
