City police are investigating after a man was stabbed while trying to intervene in an armed robbery at a northwest sports bar early Wednesday.
Officers and paramedics were called to the Tops Pizza and Sports Bar in the 5600 block of 4th Street N.W. around 12:30 a.m. to respond to the incident.
Acting Det. Martin Taylor said a man walked into the pub, asked the staff to give him money and produced a knife.
“Some patrons were sitting at a table and one of them intervened,” Taylor said. “He got stabbed by the offender.”
The suspect – described as a black man wearing a black hoodie with a face covering, about six feet tall and 200 pounds – then fled the scene.
The injured customer, a man in his 20s, was taken to Foothills hospital in stable, non-life threatening condition with a serious injury to his mid-section and a wound to his upper body, said EMS spokesman Adam Loria.
Police were subsequently called to respond to another armed robbery, this time at a northeast Subway location.
“A male entered the store with a face covering and said he had a gun, although no gun was seen,” Taylor said, adding no one was hurt.
“He was arrested following some surveillance on that male.”
Taylor said the man in this case had a similar description to the suspect in the first armed robbery, but was wearing a grey hoodie.
“We don’t know at this time if the person is the same for both cases,” he said, adding the investigation continues.
Charges are pending.
