Mounties say a teen boy is dead and his father injured in the aftermath of an ATV rollover in the McLean Creek area Saturday afternoon.
The incident happened deep in the backcountry just before 1 p.m., with the pair in a side-by-side off-highway vehicle.
EMS says bystanders pointed emergency responders in the right direction and the spot the vehicle came to rest was located — rescuers were long-lined in while paramedics and STARS air ambulance waited.
The boy, 14 years old, was extricated and worked on by ground and air crews.
The boy was ultimately declared dead at the scene while his dad suffered non-critical injuries.
Exactly what happened leading up to the rollover is still under investigation but police say speed and alcohol are not considered factors and both the boy and his dad were wearing helmets at the time.
Police will not be disclosing the names of those involved.
