A man in his mid-80s is dead after a collision between a pick-up truck and a freight train in Airdrie Thursday.
According to EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux, emergency responders were called just before 2 p.m. to a marked train crossing on 1st Ave. N.W. just west of Main Street for reports of the collision.
“On EMS arrival, paramedics determined there was a single occupant, male driver trapped in his truck that had been knocked clear of the tracks and had been substantially damaged,” Brideaux said.
EMS declared the man dead on scene and did not transport him to hospital.
RCMP and rail officials continue to investigate the incident.
