Gary Forget said he was watching a television commercial for the $250-million Golden Treasures Scratch ‘N Win, when he said jokingly to his wife that he was going to win a big prize on that lottery game.
But he never expected he’d actually take the instant game’s $2.5-million top prize.
“It was just unbelievable,” Forget said in a release. “I don’t really know how to describe my reaction; I think I must have been in shock. I started shaking, and I pinched myself. I think I had a little cry.”
Forget bought his ticket from the Mac’s convenience store at 58 West Aarsby Rd. in Cochrane.
One day, while home alone, he scratched the ticket and discovered his big win. Not believing his eyes, he took the ticket to a nearby lottery retailer for confirmation.
“I took it to one store and scanned it on the self-checker,” he said. “And then I took it to another store and asked the clerk to check it too.”
Forget said he plans to use the money to take care of his children, help with his grandchildren’s education, and possibly retire. He may also buy himself a new car, “something nice, to treat myself.”
