A man in his 60s was killed after being struck by an SUV while crossing the road north of the McKenzie Towne area Thursday night.
Officers and paramedics were called to 130th Avenue and 48th Street S.E. around 11 p.m. to respond to the collision.
Police say the pedestrian was crossing from south to north on 48th Street when he was struck by a Toyota RAV4 heading west on 130th Avenue.
He was taken to Foothills Hospital in critical life-threatening condition, and later died of his injuries.
Police say at the time, the signals were flashing amber for east-west traffic and red for north-south traffic, and it’s up to pedestrians to ensure it’s safe to cross before proceeding into the intersection.
Visibility may have been an issue as the man was wearing dark clothing and there was light rain at the time, police added.
The male driver and lone occupant of the SUV remained at the scene.
Charges are pending.
