Calgary police took several people into custody Tuesday who they believe to be responsible for at least two homicides, Postmedia has learned.
While details are scarce, sources say at least one man is expected to be charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
It’s believed the killings took place during a fight over the city’s lucrative drug trade.
Last year there were dozens of shootings as two loosely affiliated groups battled it out over control of drug trafficking patches.
As of press time Tuesday night, charges had not been officially laid.
A police spokesman said they could “confirm we have people in custody in connection with a significant organized crime-related operation and that murder charges are pending.”
More details are expected to be released Wednesday.
