Six people, including two children, were injured and a senior was killed when a semi-truck collided with a minivan on Highway 1 near Morley, early Monday afternoon.

RCMP, EMS and STARS air ambulance attended the scene and worked to extricate a patient from the minivan, which was carrying five people.

Police believe the semi, which was carrying two people, was travelling westbound on Highway 1, west of Scott Lake Hill, when it crossed the centre median and collided with a minivan travelling eastbound.

A woman in her 70s, who was sitting in the passenger seat of the minivan, was seriously injured in the crash and transported to hospital by STARS air ambulance. She succumbed to her injuries in hospital, according to RCMP.

EMS said two children in the minivan were taken to Alberta Children’s Hospital in serious, potentially life-threatening condition.

A woman in the minivan, whose age is not known, was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

A man in his 70s was driving the minivan and he was taken to hospital by RCMP after declining EMS transport.

The two people in the semi were taken by ground ambulance to Foothills Hospital in stable condition.

RCMP and EMS are still at the scene and roads remained closed in the area.
