Two seniors were killed Monday night after their car collided with farming machinery on a highway in southern Alberta.
Bow Island RCMP, fire crews and paramedics were called around 9:30 p.m. to the scene west of Foremost on Highway 61 near Range Road 132.
Investigators believe a swather equipped with a 38-foot header was heading east on Highway 61, escorted by a pilot vehicle in front, when a westbound sedan struck the header that was protruding into the westbound lane.
The sedan was heavily damaged and the two occupants — a 72-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman — were found dead at the scene, RCMP said.
The driver of the swather was treated for minor injuries.
No names have been released.
