Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Calgary and surrounding areas.
The agency has also put rainfall warnings in place for Red Deer and surrounding areas. Environment Canada says a Pacific low pressure system will move into southern Alberta this evening bringing 50 millimetres of rain or more in western central Alberta by tomorrow afternoon. The rain is expected to end by Wednesday evening as the system moves into Saskatchewan.
The agency says atmospheric conditions in Calgary are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail.
