An air ambulance and the best efforts of bystanders weren’t enough to save a four-year old girl from Calgary who was run over by a car in British Columbia.
The girl and her family were on vacation in Parksville, B.C., on Vancouver Island, when the incident happened. She was hit by a car at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday while riding on a skateboard in the Paradise Adventure RV Resort.
The little girl was riding the skateboard on her stomach, RCMP said, and lost control, accidentally putting herself in the way of the vehicle, which was driving slowly.
An off-duty doctor was nearby and immediately rushed to the four-year-old’s aid. When paramedics arrived, they rushed her to the Parksville Weigh Scales, a nearby trucking stop, for pickup by a waiting air ambulance.
Unfortunately, the efforts of bystanders and first responders weren’t enough to save her. The girl never made it to hospital.
“Despite receiving excellent and immediate care, the child died approximately one hour after the collision, just before being boarded onto the aircraft,” said Cpl. Jesse Foreman of the Oceanside RCMP in a written statement.
The RCMP’s traffic division is investigating the crash. However, they say no charges will be laid in the “tragic” incident.
