Emergency responders say a collision between a car and an SUV north of the city Wednesday killed one person and left two others in serious condition.

A woman in her 20s or 30s was declared dead at the scene of the crash, at Highway 566 and Centre Street N.

Another woman in her 20s or 30s, in the same car, suffered potentially life-threatening injuries.

And a man in his 60s or 70s, in the SUV, also suffered potentially life-threatening injuries.

Both survivors of the crash were rushed to hospital.

Both vehicles were significantly damaged in the crash at about 3:15 p.m., with the SUV coming to rest on its roof.

Police closed the highway to allow for emergency response and an investigation into a cause.

Meanwhile, police and paramedics were called to Yankee Valley Boulevard and Highway 2 in Airdrie to another crash between two cars at about 3:30 p.m.

There, a woman in her 20s from the first car and a man and a woman in their 40s from the second car were all transported to hospitals in Calgary in stable condition.

And about 4:30 p.m., yet another crash occurred between a car and a motorcycle along northbound Highway. 2 near CrossIron Drive.

The motorcycle driver, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital in Calgary with serious injuries, but in stable condition.
