Police are looking for witnesses after four cows were killed north of Okotoks after being chased by a 4×4 or ATV.
On Oct. 7, RCMP responded to call in the De Winton area for reports of a vehicle harassing cattle on private property. Four cows died as a result of injuries sustained by being chased.
Police said in a statement that an unknown person or persons opened the gate on a ranch just west of highway 2A and chased the cattle with an unknown vehicle for a period of time.
Because of the area the trespass took place, RCMP believe the vehicle has off-road capabilities.
“It would have to be a 4×4 of some sort,” Sgt. Sukh Randhawa with the Okotoks RCMP said. “Either it’s a truck or an off-road vehicle or a quad, we don’t know yet.”
Randhawa said the circumstances of the case are odd, and the RCMP are “extremely concerned with this kind of behaviour.”
RCMP are asking witnesses or anyone who may have information about this incident to contact the Okotoks RCMP at 403-995-4202, contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or visit www.tipsubmit.com.
