Extended closures of up to two hours are expected to take place between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday on the Trans-Canada Highway 16 km west of Field, B.C.
The closures taking place are needed to pave the travel lane, which has been impacted by the rockslide that occurred last week. There was another closure earlier Saturday morning to bring down large, overhanging pieces of rock.
This stretch of highway has been reduced to single lane, alternating traffic with a local gravel detour reducing speeds to 30 km/hr. Parks Canada warns of heavy traffic congestion in the area and recommends an alternate route via Highway 95 between Golden and Radium Hot Spring, and Highway 93S through Kootenay National Park.
More updates will be available Monday at noon to provide an indication of when two-way traffic will resume.
