Police in Lethbridge have arrested a man in connection with the southern Alberta city’s latest homicide and charged him with manslaughter.
Gifford George Good Dagger, 47, died in hospital Tuesday, a day after someone attacked him in an alley in the 900 block of 17th Street South. Police said Good Dagger suffered serious head and internal injuries in the assault, which happened at about 9:30 p.m. Monday.
Investigators questioned two suspects following the assault and released them without charges. After more evidence came to light, they arrested a man at a Lethbridge hotel.
The investigation determined that Good Dagger and an acquaintance had been involved in some sort of dispute earlier in the day Monday. They got in a fight Monday night that led to Good Dagger’s fatal injuries.
James Gregory Gurney, 38, of Lethbridge has been charged with manslaughter. He is in custody pending an appearance Tuesday in Lethbridge provincial court.
