A road rage dispute in southeast Alberta quickly escalated into a kidnapping and assault, according to police, who have laid charges against two people.

Medicine Hat police say the confrontation over erratic driving behaviour erupted on Friday.

During the conflict, the complainant was reportedly forced into the accused individual’s vehicle and driven to a rural location where he was assaulted.

The victim later received treatment for minor injuries.

Four days later, the major crimes section, with help from patrol officers, arrested two Medicine Hat residents in connection with the case.

Justin Goodhand, 28, was charged with robbery, kidnapping, assault, uttering threats to cause bodily harm, dangerous driving, breach of recognizance and breach of probation. He appeared in court earlier this week.

Samantha Dawe, 18, was charged with robbery. Following a bail hearing, Dawe was released on conditions.

She is expected in court on May 3.
