A program that assists Calgarians looking to buy an affordable home is being expanded with new properties available.

Attainable Homes Calgary Corp. (AHCC) announced Saturday that 14 townhouses in the southeast community of Copperfield will be available for purchase for applicants who qualify for the program.

The homes, built by Hopewell Residential, are available in two- and three-bedroom options starting at 1,100 square feet.

To qualify, applicants must have a mortgage pre-approval for at least $267,900. The annual income limit is $80,000, or $90,000 if dependent children live in the home.

AHCC, a non-profit subsidiary of the City of Calgary, helps Calgarians achieve home ownership by providing affordable access to entry-level homes.

Despite the economic downtown, new home prices in Calgary rose slightly in late 2015, according to Statistics Canada, though they decreased 0.8 per cent on a year-over-year basis.
