A Calgary border services officer is being honoured for 20 years of commendable frontline service.

Scott Jenkinson, senior officer trade compliance for the Canada Border Services Agency, received a Peace Officer Exemplary Service Medal from Gov. Gen. David Johnston on March 4th at a presentation in Vancouver.

This honour, created on June 22, 2004, is bestowed upon peace officers “who have served in an exemplary manner, characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.”

Only those who have at least 20 years of service – including 10 on the front lines performing duties involving potential risk – are eligible to receive this medal.

“I have enjoyed my career as a peace officer and with the CBSA. Every day there is something new to learn and a wide variety of duties within this Agency,” said Jenkinson in a statement.

“I felt honoured to receive the medal and humbled to be included with such diverse recipients.”

Jenkinson started his career as a peace officer in 1987, serving in the military as an artillery officer at CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick. He later joined the Canada Border Services Agency in Saskatoon, then moved to Calgary to continue his career at the Calgary International Airport.

Since 2010, he has served as the senior officer trade compliance in Calgary, overseeing a division responsible for promoting compliance and verification services to the importing, exporting and brokerage communities, and “facilitating the free flow of goods into Canada.”
